Golden Falcons' softball team falls to Triton in 9 innings

PIKEVILLE -- Triton scored a pair of ninth-inning runs and handed Charles B. Aycock a season-opening, 3-1 loss on Monday evening.
Sophomore Tanika Powell paced the Golden Falcons' offense with two hits. Connor Vinson, Mackenzie Wheeler (double), Maddie Walton, Allie Phillips (RBI), Hannah Vinson and Michaela Thompson each had an hit.
Vinson claimed the mound loss and surrendered one earned run on four hits and three walks. She recorded four strikes. Taylor Waddell tossed one inning of two-hit, two-strikeout relief.
The Golden Falcons (0-1 overall) plays host to North Johnston on Thursday.
