Spring Creek boys knock out Franklin Academy

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Brandon Gonzalez led four players in double figures with 22 points, and Spring Creek hammered Franklin Academy, 79-55, in opening-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Friday evening.
The fifth-seeded Gators (21-4 overall) play at home Monday against the South Creek-Kestrel Heights winner. A game time has been not set.
Gonzalez pulled down seven rebounds, dished out six assists and picked Franklin for five steals. Jordan Hicks contributed a double-double -- 10 points, 11 rebounds.
Tre Hammonds supplied 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Gary Williams added 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Spring Creek owned a 20-plus edge in rebounds and converted 24 Franklin Academy turnovers in 22 points.
"(We) shook off some early rust to get rolling in the second half," said SC head coach Taylor Jones, whose team led 31-20 at halftime and slowly increased its margin throughout the second half.
The Gators have won seven straight.
