CHAPEL HILL -- Due to this morning's snowfall, many basketball playoff games in eastern North Carolina have been postponed due to travel issues.

Rick Strunk, associate commissioner of communications at the N.C. High School Athletic Association, said this morning that the playoffs would be discussed in the regular commissioner's staff meeting. Strunk said, "(we) will keep member schools posted with any appropriate information. Almost always these situations are day to day, but believe me, we will continue to monitor it."

Games involving 11 schools in the News-Argus readership area have been tentatively rescheduled for Wednesday evening. However, forecasts indicate possible additional snowfall late Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.  The NCHSAA staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional information about Wednesday night games by mid-morning on Wednesday. Scheduling should be done on a day-by-day basis only.

Schools should note that games may start no earlier than 5 p.m. Wednesday, provided the schools mutually agree to that earlier time due to the weather.

Games postponed are:

Girls -- Raleigh Charter @ Rosewood, Southern Vance @ Goldsboro, South Brunswick @ Eastern Wayne, Fayetteville Westover @ C.B. Aycock and Princeton @ Riverside-Martin.

Boys -- Princeton @ East Carteret, Franklin Academy @ Spring Creek, Cedar Ridge @ Eastern Wayne, St. Paul's @ Goldsboro, Rosewood at Roxboro Community and C.B. Aycock @ Fayetteville Terry Sanford.
