ASHEVILLE -- Joel Davis scored 11 points in his final prep game as Wayne Country Day endured a season-ending, 73-49 loss to The Burlington School in quarterfinal-round play of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A boys' basketball playoffs Thursday evening.
"We were down 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and then the wheels came off," WCDS head coach David Flowers said.
Four straight turnovers a technical foul caused further trouble for the Chargers, and they never recovered.
"Burlington, defensively they were very good," Flowers said. "(The turnovers and bench tech) ... it just seemed to snowball from there. We didn't step up and play the last three quarters.
"They played hard."
Kris Cooley contributed nine points, while Shahim Muhammad and Jamal Forde added seven points apiece.
Burlington cruised to its 29th victory of the season. WCDS finished the year 15-13.
