Goldsboro Heat finish runner-up in conference tournament

The Goldsboro ended up runners-up in the NCHEAC Eastern Conference tournament after losing to the South Wake Sabres 51-42 on Saturday evening.
Gavin Portela led the Heat with 15 points, eight rebounds four steals and three assists, just missing his second straight double-double.
Josiah Simmons added 10 points for the Heat.
Portela and Cameron Yarbrough were named to the All-Tournament team.
On Friday, Portela propelled the Heat to the tournament final with a double-double as they defeated the New Life Storm 55-52.
Portela scored 25 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had four steals, three blocks and three assists.
Simmons chipped in 11 points and Harman Kaler and Yarbrough combined for 13 points. Kaler added eight rebounds.
The win came off a 22-point nine rebound perfomrance from Portela in the quarterfinal where the Heat beat the Wilmington Cardinal 59-49.
Portela averaged more than 20 points for the tournament.
The 15-6 Heat earned a berth in the state tournament in Greensboro next weekend.
