Goldsboro nailed five 3-pointers in the opening quarter and 10 overall during a 62-23 romp over hapless Eastern Carolina 2-A foe Ayden-Grifton inside Norvell T. Lee Gym on Friday evening.
Tyona Moses paced the Cougars' offense with 28 points, including 18 from long distance, and five rebounds with three assists. Point guard Destini Covington drained three 3s in a 13-point outing and Alexus Davis connected on the other 3 late in the game.
"I installed a new offense. I was just as surprised as you were that they were falling," GHS head coach LaTina Bullock said of the Cougars' outside shooting.
"Tuesday night (at Kinston), our shots weren't falling for us. Tonight they fell. It was a very important (win) to lift us up for our next two games and get us prepared for the conference tournament."
Goldsboro forced Ayden-Grifton into 34 turnovers and had 16 team assists on 21 made field goals.
Taj Worthington led the winless Chargers with seven points. Caroline Williams added 12 rebounds, seven blocked shots and four points. Penny Ascencio scored six points.
The Cougars (10-6 overall, 6-2 ECC) visit North Lenoir on Tuesday.
