CARTHAGE -- Rosewood finished eastern runner-up for the third consecutive year with a season-ending, 34-31 loss to nemesis Chatham Central in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A dual-team playoffs Thursday evening.
The Eagles received individual victories from David Dotson (120 pounds), Malique Boyd (126), Sam Drew (138), Joseph Waters (145), Kaleb Smith (170), Joshua Drew (195) and Rayquon Jones (220).
Teammate Reid Amodeo broke his arm.
"We had several opportunities to win the match and the bottom line is that we just didn't score enough points," RHS head coach Bill Edmundson said. "I don't mean that from an overly simplistic view, but even in our individual wins -- the differences between decisions, major decions, technical falls and pins.
"We knew knew Chatham would be a difficult team to pin so we stressed scoring points."
Rosewood advanced to the regional final with a 57-15 romp over East Montgomery. Chatham Central defeated Louisburg.
