Moses spearheaded a balanced attack from the Cougars, who got contributions from seven other players.

Starting guards Destini Covington, who had eight points, and Alexus Davis, who had six, were especially effective. Both pushed the pace of the Cougars transition offense and kept the Devils on their heels defensively.

"The team played together tonight," Goldsboro coach Latina Bullock said. "They played defense well tonight. The overall team work showed throughout the whole game."

Marquia Suddeth was the only South Lenoir player to score in double figures, ending up with 17 points on the night.

Rosewood 57, Lakewood 49

* SALEMBURG - Dennis Mitchell posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds during Rosewood's 57-49 triumph over Lakewood in Carolina 1-A Conference play Friday evening.

The Eagles extended their win streak to five games.

"A big game (on the road) especially coming off a big win Tuesday night," RHS head coach Daniel Mitchell said. "I was a little concerned with how we'd come out and play tonight. I knew Lakewood would play tough."

Ethan Chapin and Marquail Al-montaser combined to bury three 3-pointers as Rosewood (12-5 overall, 8-2 Carolina) built a 13-point advantage after the opening eight minutes of play. Chapin ended the night with 13 points.

The Leopards (6-10, 4-6) pulled to within 22-17 with 3:45 remaining before halftime. Costly turnovers and lack of consistent interior defensive play sparked Lakewood's run. Rosewood surrendered numerous offensive rebounds that led to second-chance points.

Lakewood scored 16 points off of offensive putbacks.

"I will say our rebounding needs to improve," Mitchell said.

After the short offensive surge, Rosewood reeled off 26 of the next 39 points over a 10-minute stretch. Dennis Mitchell got warmed up in the paint, Chapin hit his third 3 of the night and Zack Barnes collected four straight points after a technical foul on a Lakewood player.

Barnes supplied 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.

"We started to handle their defensive trap and finding open players," said coach Mitchell, whose team improved to 5-4 in road games this season. "It was a physical game inside, lot of beating and banging going on, and we're glad to come out of here with a win."

Despite the intense play, the Leopards did not attempt a free throw the entire game. Seven of their 21 field goals came from behind the 3-point arc.
