UMO men extend win streak to 8 games

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- No. 15-ranked University of Mount Olive extended its win streak to eight games with a 88-49 thrashing of Limestone in a Conference Carolinas men's basketball game Wednesday evening.
Jordan McCain collected 15 of his 22 points in the opening half for the Trojans, who climbed to 19-2 overall and 12-1 against conference opposition. UMO seized sole possession of the league's top spot after Pfeiffer U upset King (Tenn.) earlier in the evening.
McCain shot 7 of 9 from the floor and drained a trio of 3-pointers. JaQuan Blount knocked down 17 points and picked the Saints for a career-best five steals. Dominique Reed contributed 12 points.
Tayon Gleaves added 11 points in a reserve role.
UMO returns to action Saturday at Erskine (S.C.) College. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
Women's basketball
GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Arieal Johnson matched a career high with 22 points as the University of Mount Olive dropped a 67-55 decision to No. 4-ranked Limestone on Wednesday evening.
Johnson hauled down 12 rebounds for the Trojans, who slipped to 8-12 overall and 6-8 in conference play. Tommarah Harris provided 10 points.
Mount Olive entered halftime with a 23-19 lead. But Limestone (19-1 overall, 14-0 CC) answered with a back-breaking 17-2 run that lasted nearly 81/2 minutes in the second half.
The Trojans closed to within 56-49, but could get no closer.
UMO returns to action Saturday at Erskine (S.C.). Tip-off is 2 p.m.
