North Lenoir found the weak spots in Goldsboro's newly-installed 1-2-2 zone defense during their Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference game Friday evening.

During a timeout, the Cougars pleaded with head coach Latina Bullock to switch to a 2-3 zone. Bullock agreed on one condition.

"I told them if they want to play it, they better play it right," she said.

They did.

The Cougars allowed just eight second-quarter points and behind Tyona Moses' 34-point effort, handed the Hawks a 57-44 loss at Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium.

"In the 2-3, we're able to get out to the corner and contest the shots a little easier," said Moses, who also dished out four assists and grabbed seven rebounds.

"I didn't even realize she had that many (points)," Bullock said. "You just get so used to seeing her do these things every game. She does so much for this team. She's been scoring from the outside and she's been getting at posting up down low too."

The Cougars got off to a quick start with a 7-0 run in the first minute and a half. But after a 22-point first quarter, the Cougars got out of rhythm and stopped running their offense the way they had planned.

"We were running the offense in the first quarter and did well, and then in the second we got away from it and we stopped moving without the ball," said Bullock, whose team won its fourth straight game and improved to 7-4 overall, including 3-0 in the ECC.

Moses said the team has started to find a groove after an up-and-down start to the season.

"We're really clicking right now," Moses said. "The team has been aggressive and we've all been getting along. Things are going well.

Destini Covington dropped in 13 points for the Cougars, who had just five players score on the night.
