* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 77, Wilmington Christian 55 -- Marcus Metcalf scored 17 points to lead the Chargers' offense. Mitch Turnage scored 12 points and PJ Hill added 10 for Wayne Country Day, which improved to 9-1 overall this season. They play Freedom on Friday.
* Boys' basketball: Ayden-Grifton 77, Goldsboro 72 -- Despite having three players in double figures, Goldsboro fell to the host Chargers. Jaryan Hargis led the Cougars with 13, while Darryl Gaddis has 12 and Deondre Pettiford had 11.
* Boys' basketball: Eastern Wayne 56, Southern Wayne 55 -- A Southern Wayne's 3-pointer rimmed out in the final seconds and gave Eastern Wayne the one-point win Tuesday. Darrian Oates and Rayshawn Wellington each had 14 points to lead the Warriors. Justin Lofton and Malik Russell chipped in nine points apiece. Eastern Wayne plays South Central on Friday.
Middle schools
* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 29, Christ Covenant 10 -- Allison Whitfield scored eight points for Wayne Christian. Madison Wells and Abi Harrelson combined to chip in 13 points. The Eagles (8-3 overall) entertain Community Christian on Friday.
