Preps digest: JV, middle schools

JV

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro Heat 57, Wake Forest 43 -- Gavin Portela scored 24 points on 11 of 14 shooting and added seven steals and four assists in the Heat's win Tuesday. Cameron Yarbrough scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Harman Kaler dropped in 10 points. The Heat (8-4 overall 4-1 conference) travel to Durham on Saturday.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 29, Trinity Christian 10 -- Janae Jones led the way with 11 points for the Chargers. Kaitlyn Daniels and Lexi Jeffreys each dropped in six.

* Boys' basketball: Trinity Christian 68, Wayne Country Day 41 -- Trinity Christian handed Wayne Country Day its first loss of the season. Marcus Metcalf led the way with 11 points. PJ Hill and Mitch Turnage each added seven.

Middle schools

* Girls' basketball: Rosewood 36, Mount Olive 10 -- Braylee Butts scored 14 points to lead Rosewood to a 26-point victory over Mount Olive on Tuesday evening. Ar'zhane Dozier chipped in seven points in the win. Rosewood (7-1 overall) faces unbeaten Eastern Wayne in its next game.

* Boys' basketball: Wake Forest 27, Goldsboro Heat 25 -- Luke Parks scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the Heat lost a nail biter to Wake Forest.

* Boys' basketball: Trinity Christian 43, Wayne Country Day 41 -- Wayne Country Day endured a tough loss to Trinity Christian on Tuesday. Cooper Edmondson led the Chargers with 14 points. Sam Dively added nine, while Tony Barbour and Drew Barnes had eight points apiece.
