SEVEN SPRINGS -- Ashley Marriner shouldn't have even been on the court.
She just wanted to prove she could do it.
After a thigh injury in the first half, Marriner was told she probably shouldn't go back into the game.
She did anyway.
And then the sophomore dropped in 22 points and knocked down four key free throws in the final minute to seal Spring Creek's 55-45 win over Carolina 1-A Conference foe Hobbton on Thursday evening.
"I just wanted to play and prove that I could do it out there," Marriner said.
Spring Creek, which snapped an eight-game skid, had just seven players dressed for the game. Forward Tasha Teachey fouled out, which just six players available. Leading scorer Destiny Sutton sat out with a knee injury.
But the Gators battled through a lack of depth and used a 29-point second quarter to propel themselves past the Wildcats.
"They went into a man defense and we were able to use our speed to just run by them," assistant coach Kayla Herring said.
Each team only had three players get in the scoring column. Amber Buchan scored 19 for Spring Creek, and Teachey had 14.
Nina Devone led all scorers with 31 points for Hobbton.
