Preps digest: Rosewood boys win Carolina 1A opener

Rosewood 98, Hobbton 70
* NEWTON GROVE -- Dennis Mitchell led three Rosewood players in double figures with 25 points during a 98-70 shootout victory over Hobbton on Monday evening.
It was the Carolina 1-A opener for both teams.
Jonathan Gould and Zack Barnes added 16 and 15 points, respectively.
"Everybody played and scored," RHS head coach Daniel Mitchell said. "It was a good team effort and good way to open up conference play."
The Eagles (5-2 overall, 1-0 CC) visit James Kenan on Thursday.
Middle schools
* Girls' basketball: Grantham 42, Mount Olive 39 -- Erykah Baldwin paced Grantham's offense with a game-high 25 points. Alexus Elliott contributed eight points. Caroline Summerlin and Samiya Bass supplied 21 and 7 points, respectively, for Mount Olive. Grantham (2-2 overall, 1-0 WCMSAC Division II) visits Spring Creek on Wednesday. Mount Olive (2-3, 1-1 Division II) is the guest of Norwayne on Thursday.
* Boys' basketball: Grantham 48, Mount Olive 40 -- DeAndre Wright and Jamal King knocked down 14 points apiece for the victorious Bulldogs. Jordan Lee and David Brewer each tallied 10 points. Devonza Faison and Jaylen West each supplied 12 points for Mount Olive. Grantham improved to 3-1 overall this season.
