* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 72, Goldsboro Heat 79 -- DJ Waters pumped in 21 points for the Chargers, while PJ Hill scored 20. Jack Talton and Marcus Metcalf knocked down nine points apiece. Gavin Portela led the Heat with a double-double -- 31 points, 14 rebounds. Josiah Simmons contributed 17 points and eight rebounds. Harman Kaler just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. The Heat play at Wayne Christian today, while the Chargers (4-0 overall) face Wayne Christian on Jan. 6, 2015.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 27, Goldsboro Heat 23 -- Sam Dively emerged as Wayne Country Day's top scorer with 14 points. Cooper Edmondson provided five points. Benson Jones paced the Heat with 11 points. Teammates Luke Parks and Hayden Portela each had five points. Wayne Country Day (4-1 overall) faces St. Mary's on Friday.
* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 18, Parrott Academy 17 -- Abi Harrelson, Beverly Tabe, Madison Wells and Allison Whitfield each had for points for WCS. The Eagles (4-2 overall) play host to Lee Christian on Friday.
