Rosewood grapplers finish 4-0 at I-95 Duals

RED OAK -- Rosewood feasted on four opponents during the I-95 duals contested at Northern Nash High School on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles (5-1 overall) defeated Heritage (51-21), Rocky Mount (45-30), the host Knights (43-42) and West Craven (50-30).
Winners against Heritage were Josh Drew, Junior Garcia, Rayquon Jones, Kaleb Taylor, Malique Boyd, Quan Joyner, Sam Drew, Joseph Waters and Kaleb Smith.
Rocky Mount built a 15-6 lead through four individual matches, with Boyd getting Rosewood's lone win during that span. But the Eagles answered with six consecutive vcitories from Joyner, Sam Drew, Waters, Evan Reiss and Smith.
Josh Drew and Jones secured the outcome.
The Eagles and Knights batted to a 42-42 draw after all 14 matches had been completed, but Rosewood walked away with the win based on criteria. Boyd, Jayden Thomas, Sam Drew, Kaleb Smith, Josh Drew, Rayquon Jones and Kaleb Taylor each prevailed for RHS.
Of the 12 contested matches, each ended by pin in either the first or second period.
Rosewood polished off its 4-0 night against West Craven.
Tyree Owens, Taylor, Boyd, Joyner, Sam Drew, Reiss, Smith, Dylan Melgar and Junior Garcia each picked up an individual win. Eight of the 12 consecutive bouts ended by fall in the either the first or second period.
Joyner and Drew each posted a major decision.
The Eagles, who now have 523 victories in program history, return to action Dec. 3 at Holly Springs for a tri-meet.
