Eagles' matmen split season-opening tri-meet

BAILEY -- Rosewood and North Pitt each won seven individual matches in different fashion, but the Eagles claimed a 39-33 victory in a three-team dual contested at Southern Nash.
The Eagles fell to Firebirds, 34-32, in the nightcap.
Rosewood took control with a mid-match 15-point run against North Pitt. Garner Beasley secured a second-period fall at 195 pounds. Teammate Rayquon Jones claimed an 11-4 decision, and heavyweight Kaleb Taylor drew a forfeit.
North Pitt, a perennial 2-A powerhouse, prevailed in the last four matches.
The Eagles also got wins from Malique Boyd (132 pounds), Joseph Waters (145), Sam Drew (152) and Alex Godwin (170).
Southern Nash collected four pins, a major decision and forfeit during its two-point triumph over Rosewood. The Eagles received individual victories from Sam Drew (145), Evan Reiss (160), Dylan Melgar (180), Josh Drew (192), Tanner Smith (106), Jayden Thomas (126) and Boyd.
Three of Rosewood's wins resulted in six points apiece. The Eagles also had two decisions and two major decisions, which resulted in 14 points.
