Chargers' Pittman logs pair of state-qualifying times

Zan Pittman posted a pair of state-qualifying times and Wayne Country Day emerged the top-scoring boys team in a season-opening meet contested at the Goldsboro Family Y on Monday evening.
WCDS compiled 102 points, eight more than runner-up Faith Christian of Rocky Mount. Christ Covenant wound up third with 91 points.
Pittman advanced to the season-ending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A state championship meet in the 100-yard butterfly (1 minute, 5:04 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.82).
Nathan Rigdon placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:45.29) and won the 500 free (6:40.06). He, along with Pittman, helped the Chargers claim the top spot in both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. They were joined by Daniel Covert and Charlie Dees on both relays.
Covert captured first in the 200 free (2:38.5).
The Chargers' 200 free relay of Jacent Zsou, Nolan Davis, Covert and Dees placed third in 2:37.15. Dees took fifth in the 100 backstroke.
Wayne Christian's Steven Whitefield (32.51) and teammate Brady Sugg (34.81) finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 50 free.
On the girls' side, WCDS' foursome of Alison Bailey, Olivia Dively, Laurel Hinson and Kate Thompson posted a runner-up time of 5:37.19 in the 400 free relay. Dively placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:38.96), while Bailey (32.31) and Thompson (32.76) touched the wall fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 50 free.
Wayne Christian's Anna Rendall (34:48) and Emma Rendall (36.31) wound up 10th and 12, respectively, in the 50 free.
