SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Princeton's defense locked down Midway after the first quarter and claimed a 28-7, non-conference win Friday evening.

Senior quarterback Michael Wooten threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who beat the Raiders for the first time since 1979. Florida State commit Johnny Frasier added 105 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

Tanner Woodard led Princeton with 87 receiving yards and a touchdown; and on defense, the senior recorded 10 stops.

Malcolm Best also caught a touchdown pass.

Princeton entertains North Edgecombe next Friday.

Pinetown Northside 44, North Duplin 27

* PINETOWN -- Northside erupted for 16 points in a 28-second, third-quarter stretch and upended North Duplin, 44-27, on Friday evening.

Leading 20-13, the Panthers broke containment on an onside kick and returned it for a touchdown. On the next play from scrimmage, the Rebels fumbled and the Panthers quickly converted the miscue into another TD.

Northside led 36-13.

The Rebels answered with fourth-quarter touchdown runs from Savon Scott (10 yards) and Daquan Goodman (55 yards) during the final six minutes.

Kaleb Brock paced North Duplin's ground attack with 71 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Emiliano Mora provided 25 yards on six carries, including a second-quarter TD. Brion Kornegay rushed for 65 yards on eight attempts.

JP Payton completed one pass -- a 58-yard strike to Cedric Kornegay.

North Duplin (1-1 overall) travels to winless South Lenoir on Friday.

Smithfield Selma 21, So. Wayne 20

* SMITHFIELD -- Smithfield-Selma stole this one.

The Spartans scored a late touchdown and handed Southern Wayne a 21-20 loss on Friday evening.

Saints' quarterback Jacob Hollingsworth threw for 125 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

After Hollingsworth threw a 28-yard touchdown to Manny Walker in the fourth quarter, Southern Wayne led by five points and elected to go for a two-point conversion.

Hollingsworth went right back to Walker, who dropped a slant-route pass with a Smithfield-Selma safety in pursuit. Walker also returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown and hauled in a Hollingsworth TD pass.

"On the punt we were telling him not catch it because it was so short," Saints head coach David Lee said. "But he's aggressive and wants to make a play. The coverage team didn't get down there fast so he picked it up and ran, and made a heck of a play."

Djimon Ward had a 37-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter.

Costly penalties, which added up to more than 100 yards, were the root of Southern Wayne's loss.

"Our kids came out aggressive after last week," Lee said. "The intensity was there, they were ready. They really did well, we just shot ourselves in the foot with all the mistakes."

Tyaire Allen led the Saints' rushing attack with 56 yards.

Southern Wayne (0-2 overall) plays host to county rival Goldsboro on Friday.

Wallace Rose Hill 45, James Kenan 33

* TEACHEY -- James Kenan's 16-game win streak ended with a 45-33 loss to county archrival Wallace-Rose Hill at Legion Field on Friday evening.

Ken Avent III threw for a career-high 247 yards and four touchdowns, but also tossed a pair of interceptions against the Bulldogs. Avent III rushed for 61 yards and a TD on 21 carries.

"We don't really want to throw the ball that much," head coach Ken Avent Jr. said. "But we had some guys down with injuries in our backfield and that's sort of how it unfolded."

James Kenan's leading returning rusher Al Owens has missed the first two games rehabbing from wrist surgery, but Avent Jr. expects him back next week.

James Kenan had two receivers go over 100 yards in Khalil Savage (105) and John Brooks (104). Brooks had two touchdowns. Karon Williams and Greg Washington also caught touchdowns.

Jaquan Williams ran for 74 yards on 11 carries.

Donta Mason had 10 tackles.

Wallace-Rose Hill (2-0 overall) outscored the fatigued and injury-plagued Tigers 25-6 in the final quarter.

"We actually played pretty good (defense) as crazy as that sounds," he said. "We did a good job stopping their base offense, they got us for a few third-and-longs. We need to get that corrected. But I was pretty pleased."

James Kenan (1-1) entertains Union on Friday.
