Girls' soccer

Rosewood 4, Trask 0

* ROCKY POINT -- Rosewood continued its journey in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoff with a second-round, 4-0 shutout of Trask on Friday evening.

Lexi Mercer and Kimberly Scott punched in two goals apiece for the Eagles. Hannah Daniels supplied one assist.

Rosewood goalie Desiree Baker recorded three saves between the pipes.

The Eagles (12-3-4 overall) entertain Camden County (11-3-2) on Tuesday.

Lejeune 3, Princeton 1

* PRINCETON -- Lejeune eliminated Princeton from the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs with a 3-1 win Friday evening.

Jessica Brush scored the lone goal on a penalty kick to tie the match at half. Princeton had possession in its attacking third for the majority of the night, but couldn't finish its opportunities.

The Bulldogs concluded the year 13-3-1.

Baseball

Rosewood 5, Lakewood 2

* Carolina Conference champion Rosewood defeated Lakewood 5-2 in second-round play of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs Friday evening.

Jordan Gurley had three hits and gave up two earned runs during six innings of work on the mound. He walked four and struck out eight.

Kahlil Warren drove in two runs for the Eagles, who benefited from six Lakewood errors.

Bryce McKeel, Ethan Chapin and Warren each added a hit for Rosewood.

The Eagles (18-4 overall) entertain East Carteret on Tuesday.

East Carteret 4,

North Duplin 1

* BEAUFORT -- North Duplin's championship hopes were derailed Friday night with a 4-1 loss to East Carteret in the second round of the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs.

Cody Ivey started on the mound and pitched five innings. Trey Pate threw an inning in relief for the Rebels.

The Rebels only mustered two hits off of East Carteret's pitching staff. James Britt and Taylan Lewis tallied the hits. Britt scored the lone run.

North Lenoir 7,

Edenton Holmes 0

* La GRANGE -- Landon Letchworth threw a three-hitter to help push North Lenoir past J.A. Holmes, 7-0, and into the third round of the NCHSAA 2-A playoffs Friday evening.

Letchworth struck out nine and walked none in the shutout.

Tyler Smith mashed two home runs and drove in four RBI for the Hawks. Luke Jackson, Noah Reese and Jacob Baird also had hits for NL.

North Lenoir (18-5 overall) plays either Farmville Central or South Granville on Tuesday.

Perquimans 7,

Spring Creek 1

* HERTFORD -- Kolby Walker scattered seven hits in a six-inning stint and Perquimans County turned back Spring Creek, 7-1, in a second-round NCHSAA 1-A playoff game Friday evening.

Walker fanned five Gators allowed one earned run.

Sawyer Smith paced the Spring Creek offense with two hits. Allen Coor, Chad Spurgeon (RBI), Matt Rogers, Will Rouse and Levi Miller contributed one hit apiece.

Logan Miller took the pitching loss.

"Perquimans was very good ... best 1-A team I have coached against," SC head coach Heath Whitfield said. "As always, our guys battled."

Spring Creek concluded the year 18-7 overall.
