GREENSBORO -- Eastern Wayne showcased its speed and placed among the top six in three different relays during the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A men's track and field championships on Friday.

The Warriors' 800 relay posted the day's best finish -- a fourth-place time of 1 minute, 29.96 seconds. The quartet was comprised of Larry Newsome, Romello Hamilton, Lavoris Vick and Dayshawn Pridgen. The same foursome ended up fifth in the 400 relay in 43.14 seconds.

The 1,600 quartet of Hamilton, Vick, Pridgen and Deshawn Boudy captured sixth place overall in 3:26.44.

Charles B. Aycock freshman Berry Ellis entered the state meet seeded 16th in the 200-meter dash, but secured 12th place overall.

On the girls' side, Charles B. Aycock senior Jade Creel capped her career with an 11th-place mark in the high jump. Creel cleared the bar at 5 feet, 2 inches -- a season-best performance, according to head coach Roger Rhodes.

"Jade has worked hard for four years and she achieved her goal of making it to the 'big show', and she gave it her all," Rhodes said.

Eastern Wayne's Natasha Johnson posted a ninth-place distance of 16 feet, 73/4 inches in the long jump. Southern Wayne's Cierra Thompson competed in the 100-meter dash, but did not advance to the finals.
