Golf

Rosewood claims title

* KENLY -- Nick Adams emerged as the medalist and Rosewood captured its fourth consecutive Carolina 1-A Conference championship on the Cardinal Country Club links Monday afternoon.

Adams posted a 71 for the Eagles and earned all-Carolina Conference honors for the fourth consecutive season. Teammate Dylan Greene received all-conference accolades along with Spring Creek's Kyle Stone, North Duplin's Hunter Brock, Princeton's Joel Hines, James Kenan's Cole Pridgen and Lakewood's tandem of Griffin Faircloth and Tim White.

Rosewood defeated Lakewood by 72 strokes for the team crown.

Baseball

Goldsboro 16, Jones Senior 6

* Zach Falconer batted 4-for-5 and drove in three runs, and Goldsboro snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 16-6, mercy-rule win over Jones Senior on Monday afternoon.

Cayce Herring (RBI) and Damon Pate (two RBI) provided three hits apiece. Jared Howard (RBI), Kenny Stempien (RBI), Thomas Vick (two RBI) and Sterling Dodson (RBI) also contributed offensively.

The Cougars had 14 hits on the day.

Isaiah Core stole two bases.

Falconer and Miguel Lugo combined for a two-hitter on the mound. Lugo recorded seven strikeouts in a four-inning stint, while Falconer threw the fifth.

Weather permitting, Goldsboro (2-12 overall) entertains Kinston today.

South Lenoir 2,

Southern Wayne 0

* DUDLEY -- Jacob Hollingsworth threw a complete-game, one-hitter during Southern Wayne's 2-0, non-conference loss to South Lenoir on Monday evening.

Josh Jernigan and Hunter Barwick each one hit for the Saints.

Southern Wayne is the guest of J.H. Rose today.

Bethel Christian 7,

Faith Christian 2

* Bethel Christian seized an early lead and handed Faith Christian a 7-2 loss on the N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A scene Monday afternoon.

Levi Wise paced the Conquerors' offense with three hits and scored a run. John Johnson connected on a triple and scored a run.

Jack Casbarro started on the mound and allowed seven runs in two-plus innings. Wise tossed 4 2/3 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief.

Faith Christian (6-7 overall) concludes regular-season play at home today against Berean Christian. The Conquerors finished second in District 3 and will entertain Wilmington Christian in an opening-round playoff game Friday.

Oakwood 4,

Wayne Country Day 2

* Alex Goins belted a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, and No. 3-ranked Oakwood escaped Wayne Country Day, 4-2, in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference game Monday afternoon.

Mitch Turnage permitted one earned run on five hits and four strikeouts in a complete-game, 75-pitch performance. Goins also threw a complete game for Oakwood, which moved one step closer to clinching the CPIC regular-season title and automatic bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs.

Turnage, Patrick Hall (RBI), Parker Smith, Drew Barnes and Jacob Magera each had a hit for the Chargers.

"This was just a tough way to lose this ballgame," WCDS head coach Michael Taylor said. "But, on the bright side, I think we take away from this that we can battle with anyone. Both pitchers did a great job all night.

"I am very proud of each and every one of my boys."

It was the final home game for WCDS senior Jacob Parks.

The Chargers (8-9 overall, 2-5 CPIC) conclude regular-season play Friday against Greenfield. First pitch is 7 p.m. at historic Fleming Stadium in Wilson.

Girls' soccer

C.B. Aycock 8, Rosewood 2

* PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock took a 5-0 lead into the half and cruised to an 8-2 triumph over county foe Rosewood on Monday evening.

Alex Strickland buried four goals for the Golden Falcons. Anja Kliss had a goal and an assist. Anna and Emily Secuin each had a goal.

Hannah Vernon rounded out the scoring for Aycock.

The Golden Falcons (8-6-1 overall) play at D.H. Conley today, while the Eagles fell to 7-3-2 overall.
