WILSON -- Senior right-hander Carly White tossed back-to-back complete games and the University of Mount Olive swept archrival Barton College, 10-0 and 7-3, in a Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
White logged two strikeouts and earned her second shutout in her last three outings in the opener. In the nightcap, the West Brunswick High School alum scattered nine hits.
She did not walk a batter during 12 innings inside the circle.
Lauren McGrath's grand slam home run highlighted a seven-run, fourth-inning outburst in game one. It was McGrath's third round-tripper of the season and first career grand slam.
Kelsey Akers, who led off the game with a single and scored the game's first run in a two-run first inning, completed her 3-for-3 day with an RBI single in the fifth.
The Trojans picked up offensively where they left off to start the second game, scoring five runs in the top of the first. Mount Olive batted around as Beth Overman doubled in the first run and Jennifer Jones' RBI single capped the scoring.
Mount Olive (20-24 overall, 8-6 CC) concludes regular-season play next Tuesday at in-state conference foe Lees-McRae.
The Trojans begin defense of their Conference Carolinas tournament later this month in Burlington. The tournament champ advances to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionl.
