PRINCETON -- Carolina 1-A Conference softball archrivals Princeton and Rosewood seemed destined for another dramatic finish Friday evening.
Until the fourth inning rolled around.
A bases-loaded walk and two-RBI double ignited a six-run outburst and led to a 9-0 victory. The Bulldogs (8-4 overall, 6-0 CC) extended their conference lead to two games over the Eagles, Spring Creek and North Duplin.
Princeton managed just four hits, but profited from 11 walks, two hit batsmen and three Rosewood errors. Kelsey Peedin delivered two hits, while Charley Cox connected on a two-RBI double.
Kortney Edwards batted 1-for-2.
Senior right-hander Tori Paul, the reigning News-Argus pitcher-of-the-year, limited Rosewood to two hits in a complete-game effort. She logged 13 strikeouts and walked four batters on 126 pitches.
"Tori did an outstanding job in the circle," third-year RHS head coach Shay Campbell said. "(We) played strong throughout the first 3 1/2 innings until errors and walks began to plague (us). (We) struggled to get things going."
University of Mount Olive commit Anna Ingram batted 2-for-2, including a double, for Rosewood.
The Eagles (5-2 overall, 4-2 CC) return to action Monday for a doubleheader at Four County member Midway. The Bulldogs entertain Hobbton on Tuesday.
