CBA's Phillips, Burroughs combine for shutout over New Bern

NEW BERN -- Sophomore Allie Phillips and senior Meredith Burroughs combined for a five-hitter inside the pitcher's circle during C.B. Aycock's 12-0, mercy-rule thrashing of New Bern on Friday afternoon.
Phillips, a left-hander, allowed four hits in a three-inning stint. Burroughs, who has signed with N.C. State, tossed three innings of one-hit, three-strikeout relief.
Burroughs (four RBI), Madison Walton (RBI), Cierra Harris (RBI) and Connor Vinson (two RBI) each registered two hits on the day. Phillips, Abbie Walton (RBI), Michaela Thompson (RBI), Mackenzie Wheeler, Keeley Fulghum (two RBI) and Katie Gate each had one hit.
The Golden Falcons (8-2 overall) entertain unbeaten North Lenoir on Monday.
