No. 11 Pfeiffer pulls away from Trojans in 2nd half

MOUNT OLIVE -- University of Mount Olive pulled to within a single goal in the second half, but No. 11-ranked Pfeiffer University broke away for a 9-5 victory on the Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse scene at Amon Field on Thursday afternoon.
Katie McGovern scored three goals for the Trojans, who had their school-record five-match win streak snapped. Candace Corkin and Michelle Fortier also scored.
UMO trailed 5-2 before McGovern scored early in the second half. Corkin followed with a goal off of an assist from Riann Daziel, which trimmed the Falcons' lead to 5-4.
But Pfeiffer scored four of the next five goals and handed Mount Olive its second defeat in league play this season. Hannah Knight recorded 11 saves for the Trojans, who dropped to 9-3 overall.
Women's tennis
MOUNT OLIVE -- Francesca Ceppil and Roxanne Chouinard each emerged victorious in their respective singles match during the University of Mount Olive's 6-3, non-conference loss to Peach Belt member UNC Pembroke on Thursday afternoon.
Ceppi won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, while Chouinard lost just four games during her victory at the No 2 slot. The duo claimed the Trojans' lone doubles points.
Mount Olive (9-5 overall) entertains in-state Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer University on Saturday. First serve is 1 p.m.
