Bowman logs 11 saves in Trojans' lacrosse win

MOUNT OLIVE -- Goalie Ross Bowman recorded 11 saves and provided an offensive goal during the University of Mount Olive's 16-5, non-conference triumph over men's lacrosse foe Florida Tech on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Amon Field.
Matt Shields scored five goals for the Trojans, who captured their school-record seventh consecutive win. Dan Shields contributed two goals and five assists, while Cameron Walsh collected three goals and two assists.
Seven Trojans combined to score eight goals during the first 17-plus minutes of the game. Shields and Nicholas Correra connected on back-to-back man-up goals to give UMO an 8-0 advantage with 12:19 left before halftime.
UMO attempted 32 shots on goal.
Bowman finished with 11 saves in 50-plus minutes between the pipes. He sat out three minutes in the second half after taking a hard shot to the midsection.
The Trojans (9-1 overall) return to action Saturday at No. 3-ranked Limestone, the 2013 NCAA Division II national runner-up. Face-off is 3 p.m.
Men's golf
NINETY-SIX, S.C. -- Sebastian Andersen tied for eighth overall among individual golfers and No. 34-ranked University of Mount Olive placed sixth out of 17 teams during the Lander University Bearcat Men's Golf Classic.
Andersen carded a three-day total of 219 on The Patriot at Grand Harbor course. Teammate Mark O'Hara shared 20th place with a 54-hole mark of 224. Brady Hollenbacher (226) tied for 28th. Jeff Villalobos (232) and Dalton Gore (234) shared 48th and 57th place, respectively.
UMO posted a team score of 895.
The Trojans return to action next Monday in the UNCP Campbell Oil/Sunoco Classic at Wallace.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The University of Mount Olive's Tunisia Prince posted the second-best mark in school history in three events and helped establish a new school record in the women's 400-meter relay during the Shamrock Invitational.
Prince logged second-fastest times in the 100-meter dash (12.75 seconds), 200 dash (25.75) and second-best distance in the long jump (5.31 meters). She ran the second leg of the 400 relay that crossed the line in 47.64 seconds, which bested the previous program record by more than a second.
Alexis McNeill, Chelsea van Dijk and Aerostata Brown also ran the relay.
Van Dijk and Wislande Maxy each set school records in the women's heptathlon. Maxy's 3,358 total points is a school record, as is van Dijk's high jump distance of 1.55 meters during the heptathlon. Van Dijk also posted UMO top-10 marks in three other heptathlon events.
Nichole Poppe also posted three top-10 marks, while Bailee Henry's time of 2:24.67 is the second-fastest in Trojan history in the 800 meters.
On the men's side, Angus Sinclair recorded the second-best marks in school history in the javelin and high jump, as well as the 10th-best distance in the long jump. Princeton High graduate Cameron Braswell recorded the second-best distance in school history in the hammer.
Davon Draughon, Stedmond Hampton and Donavann Thornton each posted a pair of Trojan top-10 marks. Frederic Lang recorded the third-best time in the steeplechase and Austin Steagall notched the third-best time in school history in the 800 meters.
The Trojans return to action Friday in the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State.
