PIKEVILLE -- Just days before his appearance in the prestigious North Carolina-South Carolina All-Star game, coaches bestowed another honor upon Michael Williams on Monday.

The Charles B. Aycock senior earned a spot on the N.C. Basketball Coaches Association District 3 first team. Williams emerged as the second-leading vote-getter behind North Carolina recruit Brandon Ingram, who earned the district's player-of-the-year award after he led Kinston to its third straight 2-A state championship on Saturday.

"Mike's selection to the all-district team is a well-deserved honor," CBA head coach Tod Morgan said.

Williams is now eligible for NCBCA all-state honors.

Despite getting double- and triple-teamed much of the season, Williams logged double-doubles in 21 of 24 games and surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career. He averaged 20.5 points and 14.6 rebounds for the Golden Falcons, who finished 8-16 overall.

A player with soft hands and good touch around the basket, Williams takes his talents to Socastee (S.C.) High School for the All-Star game on Saturday. Tip-off is approximately 8 p.m.

"It is a tremendous honor for Mike and our program that he's been selected for the All-Star game," Morgan said. "He is the first player from Aycock to ever play in the game."

Williams is just one of three players from the eastern part of North Carolina to earn a spot on the 10-man roster. Davie County's Mike Absher is the head coach and Steve Robinson of Wallace-Rose Hill is his assistant.

Robinson guided W-RH to a runner-up appearance in the 1-A east regional nearly two weeks ago.
