Gators double up Lakewood

SALEMBURG -- Sawyer Smith drove in three runs during Spring Creek's 6-3 triumph over Lakewood in the Carolina 1-A Conference opener for both teams Friday evening.
Smith finished the day 2-for-3 for the Gators, who rose to 4-2 overall this season. Matt Rogers (RBI) and lead-off batter Logan Miller contributed two hits apiece.
Miller claimed the mound win. The junior right-hander yielded three runs (one earned) on four hits, struck out five and walked one in a five-inning stint. Chad Spurgeon tossed two innings of two-strikeout scoreless relief.
Spring Creek travels to Hobbton on Tuesday.
