Burroughs, Gay each slug HR for Golden Falcons

Meredith Burroughs and Katie Gay each mashed a home run as Charles B. Aycock cruised past county rival Southern Wayne, 11-2, in an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference game Friday evening.
Burroughs has 37 career home runs, while Gay (4 RBI) swatted her second round-tripper in as many games and finished with three hits on the night.
Connor Vinson, a left-handed slap hitter, pounded out three hits. Allie Phillips doubled twice in four at-bats and drove in two runs. Cierra Harris (RBI), Mackenzie Wheeler (three RBI), Keeley Fulghum (RBI) and Madison Walton (RBI) provided one hit apiece.
Phillips emerged as the winning pitcher. The sophomore left-hander surrendered an unearned run on four hits and struck out four.
C.B. Aycock (4-1 overall, 2-0 ECC) entertains J.H. Rose on Tuesday.
