Dache, Cruse power UMO past in-state foe Pfeiffer

MOUNT OLIVE -- Angel Dache cranked out a match-high 18 kills and the University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team fended off in-state Conference Carolinas rival Pfeiffer 31-29, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22 on Wednesday evening.
Steven Cruse added 16 kills for the Trojans, who improved to 7-3 against conference opposition this season. Lewis Einarson finished with eight kills and a team-high five blocks.
Quaid Marin dished out 52 assists. Keaton Marin led the defense with 15 digs.
Mount Olive (8-9 overall) returns to action Saturday in the Coker College Tournament. The Trojans play host the school and future Conference Carolinas member Emmanuel.
Men's lacrosse
MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive erupted for nine second-period goals and stormed past Alderson-Broaddus (W. Va.) University, 20-3, at Amon Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Daniel Shields led the Trojans with five goals and two assists. Maxwell Bonetti contributed two goals and two assists. Overall, 11 Trojans scored at least one goal in the game.
UMO owned a 49-27 edge in shots on goal against the Battlers, who remained winless in seven outings this season.
The Trojans (5-1 overall) entertain Ohio Valley on Friday afternoon. Game time is 4 p.m.
