WCDS baseball rolls in season opener

Mason Bland and Amane Godo combined for a no-hitter as Wayne Country Day launched its 2014 season with a 23-1, mercy-rule romp over Trinity Christian of Fayetteville on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials halted the game after 21/2 innings.

Bland permitted the lone unearned run, struck out two and walked one in two innings. Godo fanned two Trinity batters in a scoreless third inning.

Mitch Turnaged (two RBI) paced the Chargers' offense with three hits, including a double. Bland (three RBI), John Strickland (three RBI), Drew Barnes (two RBI) and Jon Bryan (three RBI) supplied two hits apiece.

Overall, 10 of 13 WCDS players had at least one hit.

The Chargers (1-0 overall) entertain Northwood Temple on Thursday.
