Aycock's Phillips tosses 4-hit shutout on softball diamond

PIKEVILLE -- Allie Phillips threw a complete-game four-hitter during C.B. Aycock's 16-0, mercy-rule triumph over New Bern in the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference opener for both teams Tuesday.
Walton faced 19 batters and struck out four. She was backed by a defense that didn't commit an error.
Senior Cierra Harris batted 4-for-4 with two RBI. Mackenzie Wheeler (two RBI) and Abbie Walton (four RBI) contributed three hits apiece.
Connor Vinson (RBI), Keeley Fulghum (two RBI) and Meredith Burroughs (RBI) each had two hits.
Overall, the Golden Falcons cranked out a season-high 19 hits.
Weather permitting, Aycock (2-1 overall, 1-0 ECC) plays host to Wilson Fike today. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
