Reed, Brite pace Trojan men at home

MOUNT OLIVE -- Dominique Reed and Dontrell Brite combined for 37 points during the University of Mount Olive's 70-66 conquest of Conference Carolinas foe Erskine (S.C.) on Saturday afternoon.

Reed finished one rebound shy of a double-double and converted all six of his shots from the floor for the Trojans, who won for the sixth time in their last seven outings. Brite dished out five assists, grabbed three rebounds and played a team-high 33 minutes.

No other UMO player scored in double figures.

John Weiland provided nine points off the bench, while Ewon Wright contributed six points and four rebounds.

The Trojans owned a 40-30 edge in total rebounds.

Mount Olive (14-8 overall, 8-4 CC) returns to action Monday at in-state foe Belmont Abbey.

Women's basketball

MOUNT OLIVE -- Joneiqua Gary and Jasmine McDonald scored 14 points apiece, and the University of Mount Olive turned back Conference Carolinas foe Erskine, 60-48, on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans won their seventh consecutive game.

McDonald was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line for Mount Olive, which converted 17 of its final 20 free throws after a 1 for 5 start. The senior guard added four assists and seven rebounds.

Anamaria Zjacic led UMO on the boards with nine rebounds. Andrea Jones added 10 points.

In their previous meeting, the Trojans and Flying Fleet exchanged the lead on 20 occasions. Erskine sank the game-winning basket with 12 seconds left in the game.

Men's volleyball

DUE WEST, S.C. -- Steven Cruse and Mike Mann combined to block match point, and the University of Mount Olive handed Conference Carolinas foe Erskine a 25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 15-12 setback at Belk Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Mann, in just his third match, provided seven blocks. Cruse added four blocks and career-high 12 digs for the Trojans, who limited Erskine to a minus-.028 hitting percentage through the first two sets.

UMO had a season-high 13 blocks as a team.

The Trojans never trailed in the final set, but had to withstand five ties. Angel Dache's kill broke a 10-10 deadlock. Cruse and Garret Dimm each recorded a kill, followed by a block from Cruse and Mann.

The Flying Fleet saved one match point before the Cruse-Mann combination delivered the clinching block.

Dache cranked out a team-high 16 kills. Dimm provided nine kills and five digs, while Lewis Einarson collected seven kills. Tyler Yanez passed out 27 assists.

Libero Josh Donahue recorded 20 digs for a UMO defense that logged 59 digs as a team.

One night earlier, Dache recorded his first double-double of the season during UMO's 25-13, 29-31, 25-21, 25-19 triumph over conference foe Limestone (S.C.) on Friday evening. He posted a match-high 22 kills and career-best 13 digs.

Cruse contributed 19 kills and junior setter Quaid Marin dished out 54 assists. Donahue matched Dache with 13 digs. Dimm supplied nine kills and three blocks, while Einarson had eight kills and two blocks.

The Trojans (6-7 overall, 5-3 CC) continue a six-match road swing Tuesday at in-state rival Belmont Abbey. UMO also has road dates with national vote-getter IPFW and No. 15-ranked Ball State.
