Abbott, SC boys fare well

SALEMBURG -- Gage Abbott emerged the 1,000-meter individual champion and helped Spring Creek place second during the boys' portion of the season-ending Carolina 1-A Conference indoor track and field championship meet contested at Lakewood High School.
Abbott won the event in 3 minutes, 11 seconds. The Gators compiled 67 points as a team. Lakewood claimed the team title with 177 points.
Rosewood distance runner Dalton Farmer captured the 3,200-meter run in 11:44.
Princeton won the 3,200 relay.
On the girls' side, Rosewood's Alysse Atwell earned conference titles in the triple jump (28 feet, 11 inches) and 55 hurdles (10.29). Teammate Brynna Lee won the pole vault and finished runner-up to Neuse Charter's Sara Stephenson in the 1,600 run.
The Eagles won the 1,600 and 3,200 relays, and placed second behind Lakewood in the team standings with 82 points. The Leopards had 117.
Spring Creek's Rachel McCollum won the shot put with a toss of 26-7.
