Preps digest: JV, middle schools

JV sports
* Boys' basketball: Southern Wayne 63, C.B. Aycock 60 (OT) -- Quientio Carlton emerged as the Saints' top scorer with 15 points. Terry Artis added 14 points. Emmanuel Walker and James Leonard chipped in nine and eight points, respectively. Aycock's Cameron Kornegay poured in a game-high 18 points. Damien Darden (14 points), Brandon Cowan (11) and Elijah Bryant (7) helped the Golden Falcons' cause.
* Girls' basketball: Southern Wayne 51, C.B. Aycock 34 -- The Golden Falcons fell to 2-12 overall and 1-7 in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play.
* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 84, Greene Central 54 -- Jaryan Hargis led three Cougars in double figures with 19 points. Kisheem Faison added 18 points, while Nakia Atkins contributed 12. Darryl Gaddis had six steals.
Middle schools
* Girls' basketball: Norwayne 28, Eastern Wayne 15 -- Hannah Vinson paced the unbeaten Cobraswith nine points. Hannah Carter knocked down eight points, while Jayla Holloway contributed seven points. Norwayne (14-0 overall) faces Greenwood next Monday.
* Boys' basketball: Grantham 40, Rosewood 26 -- Jamal King paced the Bulldogs' attack with 21 points. DeAndre Wright provided eight points. Jonathan Peacock dropped in six points for the Eagles. Grantham improved to 11-2 overall this season.
* Boys' basketball: Rosewood 46, Greenwood 41 -- Chance Howard led three Eagles in double figures with with 14 points. Mike Reid scored 12, while Tucker Chapin supplied 11 points.
