MOUNT OLIVE -- John Wieland tied a school record with nine 3-pointers and Dory Hines matched his single-game assist mark with 16 during the University of Mount Olive's 100-90 victory over in-state Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae on Wednesday evening.
Wieland finished with a game-high 27 points for the Trojans, who rose to 10-7 overall and 4-3 against league opposition this season. The sophomore from Pittsboro shot 9 of 12 from 3-point range, including 5 of 5 in the second half.
Hines and Wieland notched their record-tying marks on the same play -- an assist from Hines to the sharp-shooting guard with 3:09 remaining in regulation. Wieland shares the program's 3-point record with Elton Coffield and Tony Warlick.
Hines set the previous assists record against L-MC in 2011. The senior from Kinston pulled down 11 rebounds and scored seven points. Dominique Reed added 10 points and blocked four shots.
Dontrell Brite emerged the Trojans' top scorer with 23 points.
UMO notched season highs of 63.2 percent shooting from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point range.
The Trojans return to action Jan. 29 at archrival Barton.
