* Girls' basketball: South Johnston 35, C.B. Aycock 26 -- Sean-Keya Faison paced Aycock's offense with 11 points. Taliyah Green supplied seven points and Allison Shingleton contributed six. Aycock fell to 2-10 overall this season.
Girls' basketball: Freedom Christian 42, Wayne Country Day 16 -- Hannah Neal scored a team-high seven points in the Chargers' loss on Wednesday evening. WCDS (3-6 overall) visits Greenfield on Friday.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Freedom Christian 43, Wayne Country Day 41 -- Marcus Metcalf poured in a team-leading 18 points for the Chargers. Drew Barnes and Sam Smith chipped in eight and seven points, respectively. The Chargers (3-7 overall) are the guests of Greenfield on Friday.
