Wayne Christian started with a bang, but fizzled out as the game wore on Tuesday evening.

Crossroads Christian used a big second quarter to hand the Eagles a 70-38 loss in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play at Clifford Gymnatorium.

"I thought the first five minutes we really started strong," Wayne Christian head coach Roger Longwell said. "We made a few shots and kept ourselves in the game. But to Crossroads' credit, they stuck with it and they really played well."

Kanin Preskit got the Eagles on the board first with a 3-pointer less than 10 seconds into the game. After a Crossroads basket, Tyler Weeks sank a driving layup that pushed Wayne Christian ahead 5-2.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Colts ended the quarter on a 14-4 run.

Crossroads opened the second quarter with consecutive scores and increased the lead to double digits at 20-9. The lead grew to 20 points by halftime.

Holden Hedgepath took over the third quarter for the Colts with nine points in the period. Crossroads led 58-33 after three quarters.

"We showed some pretty good things in our last game and I was hoping that we could keep ourselves close," Longwell said. "(Crossroads) can really shoot the ball and they did an excellent job rebounding it when they missed."

Crossroads finished with a 40-25 edge on the glass.

Hedgepath emerged the game's high scorer with 27 points. Sal Brown added 15 and Zack Brown finished with 13.

Preskit led Wayne Christian with 17 points. Weeks added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Wayne Christian (1-11 overall, 1-7 CCC) travels to league foe Cresset Christian on Friday.
