STANHOPE -- Rosewood placed fourth overall and Charles B. Aycock captured just one victory during the annual Thomas Cowles Memorial Firebird Duals contested at Southern Nash on Saturday.
The Eagles (34-2 overall) defeated Northern Nash and Franklinton in pool play, but dropped a 31-30 decision to perennial powerhouse Havelock. They bounced back to defeat Washington and Raleigh Millbrook.
"Going 4-1 in this tournament was admirable and all things considered, I think it was a success," RHS head coach Bill Edmundson said. "Against Havelock, we didn't match up well against them. I am extremely proud of our guys, though.
"Havelock is a very physical and well-coached team. For us to go toe-to-toe with them speaks volumes."
The youth-ladened Golden Falcons struggled all afternoon. Senior Ryan Morton posted a 5-0 record on the day.
"(We) took a step backwards," first-year CBA head coach RJ Allen said. "We did not look like a team that wanted to go out and prove themselves as a team to be reckoned with. Even our top wrestlers on the team suffered multiple defeats in individual matches.
"I am sure the team will step up this week and use this past weekend as motivation to become better individually, and as a team."
Rosewood returns to action Wednesday at Eastern Wayne. Aycock is off until Saturday when it travels to Corinth-Holders for the annual Jolly Roger Invitational.
