PIKEVILLE -- The experience shined once Rosewood separated itself from county archrival Charles B. Aycock on the wrestling mat Tuesday evening.

The Eagles, who had 10 returning starters in the lineup, recorded seven pins in 12 contested individual bouts and cruised to a 55-21 win -- the 488th overall in program and county history.

"Any time you can go to C.B. Aycock and come away with a win in wrestling, it's a good day," RHS head coach Bill Edmundson said. "We have a tremendous amount of respect for the Aycock wrestling program and it was simply our turn."

The Golden Falcons started six freshmen.

"We have a young team and we're still making some mental mistakes, which we have to correct," first-year CBA head coach RJ Allen said. "Once we do that and get these young athletes and coached up, they're thinking too much instead of reacting and once they start reacting more, I think we'll do much better.

"Each time they get out there, they're learning more."

Rosewood (11-1 overall) posted the initial takedown in 10 matches and nine grapplers came away with a victory. Quan Joyner's second-period fall over Jeannautica Jones at 132 pounds tied the overall match at 12-12.

The Eagles reeled off 43 of the next 46 points.

Returning starter Sam Drew logged a 17-second pin at 138 pounds and first-year starter Kennedy Behrend drew a forfeit at 145. Teammate Jordan Batson avoided late trouble in the second period and pinned Aycock freshman Joshua Wallace at the 5-minute, 11-second mark.

It was Wallace's first loss in nine outings this season.

"I know that's tough on Josh and he's going to learn a lot from this one, study it and make sure it doesn't happen again," Allen said.

Kaleb Smith (170 pounds), Josh Drew (182), Garner Beasley (195), Rayquon Jones (220) and heavyweight Kaleb Taylor each emerged victorious on the night.

Drew let a four-point lead slip away and upended Ryan Morton, 6-4. Beasley, who had just seven practices, dominated Golden Falcon sophomore Chris Barbour, 11-2.

"We still have a couple of people moving around in the weight classes," Edmundson said. "Once we get settled on that, I think we will be a step closer to reaching our goal."

Aycock won both matches where it recorded the first takedown. Jacob Dickenson pinned Andrew Magliochetti in 60 seconds at 120, while Zack Howard scored a second-period fall over Nick Martin.

Jaret Paynter posted an 11-4 win over the Eagles' Evan Reiss at 160.

The Golden Falcons (4-5) started six freshmen on the night.

"We've got to take things in stages," Allen said. "We've got to make sure we wrestle smarter. It's going to take a little bit of time."
