JV sports
* Girls' basketball: Southern Wayne 46, Smithfield-Selma 23 -- Monica Manley led Southern Wayne with 14 points. Macayla Tyndall added 10 points in the win. Southern Wayne improved to 1-0 overall.
* Girls' basketball: Goldsboro Heat 27, Wayne Country Day 8 -- Hunter Kaler paced the Heat with 15 points. Langley Barnes emerged the leading scorer for Wayne Country Day with four points. Wayne Country Day travels to Parrott Academy on Wednesday.
* Boys' basketball: Smithfield-Selma 57, Southern Wayne 52 -- Tyree Artis led the Southern Wayne attack with 20 points. The Saints (0-1 overall) will entertain Northern Nash on Wednesday.
* Boys' basketball: Goldbsoro Heat 77, Wayne Country Day 62 -- Blake Poland scored 28 points to push the Heat to a victory. P.J. Hill finished with 19 points for Wayne Country Day. Tony Townsend added 16 for the Chargers. Wayne Country Day visits Trinity of Fayetteville on Thursday.
Middle schools
* Boys basketball: Goldsboro Heat 42, Wayne Country Day 33 -- Josiah Simmons emerged the leading scorer for the Heat with 19 points. Marcus Metcalf paced Wayne Country Day with 26 points. Wayne Country Day is the guest of Parrott Academy on Wednesday.
