Vandevender notches "golden goal" for Trojans

MOUNT OLIVE -- Tyler Vandevender delivered the "golden goal" in the third minute of overtime, and Mount Olive College turned back in-state foe Chowan University, 2-1, on Tuesday evening.
The Trojans pressured in the final minutes of regulation and Fernando Tacuri provided the equalizer on Josiah Saydee's assist in the 89th minute.
Vandevender converted a free kick after Chowan foul.
MOC owned a 14-4 edge in shots.
The Trojans (2-10-0 overall) travel to Lenoir-Rhyne today.
Volleyball
MOUNT OLIVE -- Carly White posted her career-high 24th kill on match point and Mount Olive College defeated Converse (S.C.) College 25-11, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20 in a Conference Carolinas match at Kornegay Arena on Tuesday evening.
White contributed eight blocks on the night, also.
Dezirae Mackey supplied 14 kills and three blocks. Lauren Lee served five of the Trojans' eight aces and logged 11 digs on defense. Charnel Austin tallied 14 digs.
Nicole Karas handed out 50 assists.
Mount Olive (8-12 overall, 5-5 CC) entertains Barton on Oct. 23.
