Trojans' Andersen earns medalist honors in playoff

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Sebastian Andersen claimed medalist honors in a playoff and No. 21-ranked Mount Olive College placed second out of 20 teams on the final day of the Myrtle Beach Men's Golf Intercollegiate.

Andersen defeated Lincoln Memorial's Braden Gaylon in the playoff after carding an even-par 72 in second-round play. Andersen concluded the 36-hole event at 3-under 141 and was one of four Trojans to place among the top 20 individuals.

Sam Crowther tied for 11th place with an even-par 144 after shooting 70 in the first round and 74 in the second round. Jesus Valderrama (145) tied for 14th, Dalton Gore (147) tied for 20th and Brady Hollenbacher (161) finished 87th.

MOC posted a team score of 577 -- matching the fourth-lowest 36-hole score in program history.

Wingate won the team title.

On the women's side, MOC's Julie Loennechen placed fifth out of 92 golfers and matched the third-lowest 36-hole score in program history, while the Trojans ended up fourth in the 18-team field.

Loennechen logged a two-day total of 151 -- a score also recorded by current teammate Virginia Lane and alums Emelie Andersson, Tegan Skirpstas and Valentina Urquiola.

Anne Barboteau (159) tied for 24th, Emy Ohling (161) tied for 30th, Lane (63) tied for 37th and Louisa Tillstrom (166) tied for 47th.

MOC had a 631 team score.

Volleyball

BELMONT -- Belmont Abbey earned the regular-season sweep with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-15 over Mount Olive College in a Conference Carolinas women's volleyball match Tuesday evening.

Lauren Lee and Sarah Watkins recorded six kills apiece for the Trojans, who fell to 6-11 overall and 3-4 in conference play this season. Lee and Charnel Austin collected eight digs apiece on defense.

Elyse Keating handed out 21 assists.

MOC travels to North Greenville (S.C.) University on Friday and is the guest of Erskine (S.C.) on Saturday.

Soccer

MOUNT OILVE -- Ellie Barnes notched the equalizing goal late in the opening half, but Belmont Abbey handed Mount Olive College a 2-1 setback in a Conference Carolinas women's soccer match at Amon Field on Tuesday evening.

Barnes scored in the 30th minute for the Trojans, who suffered their eighth one-goal loss of the season.

MOC goalie Stephanie McCoy recorded six saves.

The Trojans (2-8-1 overall, 0-5-0 CC) begin a four-match road swing Saturday at Conference Carolinas foe Limestone (S.C.) College.
