Unbeaten Scotland County drops Goldsboro, 35-14

LAURINBURG -- Goldsboro fell behind 28-7 at the half and couldn't rally in a 35-14 loss perennial 4-A power Scotland County on Friday evening.

Rasheid Malette scored the Cougars' lone touchdown in the first half on a 64-yard run. Goldsboro quarterback Nashir Bowden connected with Hunter McCoy on a 46-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Tackle Justin Cates and safety Toric Best paced the Cougars' defense with nine tackles apiece. Cates had two stops behind the line of scrimmage. Joseph Baker picked off a Scotland County pass.

The Cougars (2-4 overall) open Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play at home Friday against South Lenoir.
