Rosewood made a big play on the opening series and set the tone for a 27-8 win over Carolina 1-A Conference foe Hobbton at Branch Pope Field on Friday night.
Garner Beasley blocked a punt following a Hobbton three-and-out. The Eagles recovered and scored one play later when Filipe Ornelas plunged into the end zone from one yard out.
After the Wildcats took the lead 8-7 late in the first quarter, Jamari McGown returned a kick 79 yards for a touchdown and put the Eagles ahead for good. McGown added a 65-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Jacob Sasser completed the tally with a one-yard touchdown dive.
"We moved the ball the whole game," Rosewood head coach Robert Britt said. "We had some penalties at some bad times that really cost us some chances to score more points."
McGown led the Eagles with 82 yards rushing. Mike Woodard added 53 yards and Ornelas tallied 48 yards on eight totes.
Rosewood (3-3 overall, 1-0 CC) plays host to No. 1-ranked and unbeaten James Kenan next week.
