WILSON -- Charlie Roethling converted a penalty kick in overtime and Wayne Country Day upended nemesis Greenfield, 1-0, in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference game Friday afternoon.

The Chargers swept the regular-season series.

Roethling's PK occurred on a foul inside the 6-yard box. Teammate Ramel Carpenter dribbled into the penalty area and Greenfield's keeper came off his line to challenge. The keeper took out Carpenter and a Knights' defender, and WCDS was awarded the penalty shot.

It was Roethling's second PK of the season.

"(Both) teams had their chances and couldn't score," WCDS head coach Steve Ellis said. "We got the breaks ... grinded out the game."

The Chargers (7-6-1 overall, 5-2-0) extended their winning streak to four games. Overall, Wayne Country Day has prevailed in six of its last seven outings after a 1-5-1 start to the season.
