Barton men, women knock off MOC in soccer

WILSON -- Senior Archer Bane supplied the Barton College men's soccer team with a five-point performance en route to a dominating 4-2 conquest over Conference Carolinas archrival Mount Olive College on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs (1-4-1 overall, 1-1-0 CC) scored the first four goals of the game. Bane connected in the 29th and 76th minutes, while Dante De Luca and Kevin Strassburger contributed goals in the 49th and 53rd minutes, respectively.

MOC junior Bright Eto spoiled Barton's shutout bid with a pair of goals in the final seven minutes. The Trojans remained winless in six outings this season and fell to 0-2-0 in conference play.

Barton senior goalie Vasily Yakimkin made two saves en route to his first win. MOC sophomore Aleksandar Drobac logged three saves.

The Trojans entertain USC Aiken on Saturday. Kickoff is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.

Women

WILSON -- Sophomore forward Jodi Barber collected the "golden goal" in the 106th minute, lifting Barton to a 1-0 double-overtime win over Mount Olive College in a Conference Carolinas contest Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs defeated the Trojans for the first time 2008.

Barber beat MOC freshman goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy to a crossing pass at the top of the 18-yard box served by senior Taylor Parrish. Barber made a beautiful touch to her left and then was able to chip in a tough angle shot into the back of an empty net to end the game.

The Trojans finished with a 14-8 shot advantage, with Barnes taking five attempts including four on frame. The Lady Bulldogs held a 7-4 corner kick edge.

MOC (1-5-1 overall, 0-2-0 CC) travel to Converse (S.C.) College on Saturday. The Conference Carolinas match kicks off at 6 p.m.
