GREENVILLE -- Two freshmen provided the offensive punch Wayne Country Day needed in a 2-1 triumph over Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A foe Oakwood School on Friday afternoon.

Noah Adkins tallied a first-half goal on an assist from Miller Gerrard.

Hayes Gerrard notched an unassisted, game-winning goal in the second half.

Oakwood's keeper recorded 18 saves on 23 shots, escaped a first-half penalty kick and denied the Chargers three goals on one-on-one breakaways.

"(A) positive performance for the lads, we kept Oakwood on the back foot and wouldn't let them out," WCDS head coach Steve Ellis. "It was good to see we are creating chances, but we need to be more clinical, especially in a 1-v-1 situation."

Wayne Country Day (3-5-1 overall, 2-1-0 CPIC) entertain Epiphany on Tuesday afternoon.
