Wayne Country Day needed to show a consistent effort.

Spurred on by rival Wayne Christian, the Chargers finally delivered with four goals in the second half of a 6-0 win Thursday evening.

"I was glad to see our guys come out switched on from the opening whistle," Wayne Country Day head coach Steve Ellis said. "In our earlier games we had played well in 3-5 minute stretches, but tonight it was 80 minutes."

Ramel Carpenter opened the scoring for the Chargers when he seized a pass from Miller Gerrard and fired a shot into the net in the 22nd minute. Less than 90 seconds later, Noah Adkins put WCDS ahead 2-0.

Wayne Christian held close until the intermission, but never mounted a consistent offensive threat.

"(Wayne Country Day) clearly was the faster team tonight," Wayne Christian head coach Daryl Anderson said. "We graduated eight seniors last year and had a couple of guys transfer to other schools so we are really young. The key for us is going to get those young guys up to speed as soon as possible."

Wayne Country Day (1-3-1 overall) added to its lead in the 42nd minute when Adkins collected a pass from Carpenter and deposited the ball into the net. Gerrard made it 4-0 in the Chargers' favor in the 60th minute off an assist from Danny Lee.

Gerrard added his second goal of the game in the 70th minute and Carpenter capped the 6-0 final score with a goal in the 72nd minute off an assist from Jacob Magera.

Wayne Country Day finished with a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. Wayne Christian keeper Mason White finished with six saves.

Wayne Christian (0-4-0 overall) travels to Neuse Christian today. Wayne Country Day plays host to Kestrel Heights on Tuesday.
